BAA trustees have the discretionary option of awarding a discovery which advances understanding and stimulates public imagination of the past.
Judges will be looking for evidence of the following:

- Commitment to recognised professional standards and ethics for recovering and reporting the discovery and subsequent dissemination
- Quality of collaboration with others
- A project which captures the public’s imagination
A discretionary award for Best Archaeological Discovery will be presented at the 2016 British Archaeological Awards ceremony on 11 July.
